Five-by-Five 2014

  • by

It’s that time of the year again: submissions for Five-by-Five Tampa Bay! This is a great fundraising event hosted by the Arts Council of Tampa Bay. Artists create 5″x5″ pieces of artwork, and all of the pieces are sold anonymously for $25. The proceeds go towards art-related grants for individuals and programs in the Tampa Bay area.

This will be my third year supporting the event with my fantastic artwork, and I sent my 2014 submissions off today. (You can see my work from 2012 and 2013 here.) Both of my mosaics sold in 2012, and I know that at least one of my paintings sold in 2013.

This year I decided to do two multimedia pieces inspired by my “Missing Piece” painting. I removed pieces from a puzzle that were approximately the shape of a heart. I then altered those puzzle pieces by gluing pretty scrapbooking paper on them of various patterns. I glued the pieces to canvases that I painted, and I painted over the whole thing with sparkly Mod Podge.

I like the way they came out, and I still like the symbolism of the puzzle heart. I hope they sell!
