Steel Bonds

  • by

Sitting in patio chairs
Watching reflectively
As robins catch
Their wormy prey

Remembering the times
He taught me
to ride my bike
or play softball

Chatting about this and that
Nothing really

Strengthening a bond
That was not fully forged
In childhood

Recognizing each other’s strengths
Ignoring each other’s weaknesses

Past and present meld
Into one ideal state
That extends beyond
Father-daughter

And becomes
Friendship
