Why Do You Like Music?

“Why do you like music?” they sometimes say.
I respond, “Oh, let me count the ways…”

It touches my heart
Brings a tear to my eye
When a few tender notes
Reveal the fears that I hide

Then it makes me laugh
Until there’s pain in my sides
And the bass and the lyrics
Unleash the child inside

Now it takes me higher than high
Across the universe some days
Then I sink lower than low
Into the arms of the angel I sway

It pierces my soul
Makes my heart quake
Says all of those things
I wish I could say

My legs quiver and burn
As my body responds
While I long for a partner
Who will lead me beyond

Tattooed in my skin makes some people smile
While others respond with a query

“Why do you like music?” they say.
“Oh, let me count the ways…”
