The Poem
elephant on the windowsill
I forget what my friend
said when she gave it
something about
courage and
open heartedness
I think
I do remember
cracking a dick joke
before knowing she was
doing something serious
a dick joke
to my friend,
a lesbian
in my mind
her silence felt like
an eternity
in my mind
her gaze suggested
pocketing the gift
ungiven
and then she
handed it to me
bigger than its size
heftier than its weight
and it sits on my windowsill
reminding me of someone
who loved me
even when I was a jackass
