Bad Poet 2026: Day 13

  • by

The Prompt

For today’s prompt, Katie invited us to think about what fuels our tank when we are running low.

The Poem

a past therapist told me
“it’s like a cookie jar”

“you can’t share cookies
unless the jar is full”

I never was much of a baker

I’ve tried a recipe
or ten
or maybe it’s
a thousand now

and I’ve found
a few things out

more than a pinch
of time outside

with a heaping cup
of bike time

a dash
of Harold & Maude

mixed with
pen, pencil, ink, and paint

cook for the time
it takes to meetup
with friends for
a long coffee date

repeat monthly
for some of these
daily for others

and sometime
in between
for the rest

Processing

I think I like the cookie analogy more than a gas tank. I do think we have to make our own cookies, or at least find the activities or rest that we need to refuel. What do you think? Is there an analogy that works better for you?

Enjoy what you’ve read and want to support my art business?

Buy me a brew!

If we were together, and I read you my poem, you might want to buy me a brew. Coffee at a shop is $5. A beer at a pub is $8. Any amount would be appreciated and well used! And let’s continue the conversation! Share your thoughts in the comments!
