The Prompt
Today’s challenge was to make a blackout poem. I used a page from an interview in a local magazine. The interview with muralist Billie Jones in the December Showcase Magazine in Danville VA, if you want to know.)
The Poem
I’m including a picture of the actual blackout I did. I feel like it’s just not the same written out. Though that is below as well, for ease of reading.

I love colors
I love
philosophy
transition
gratitude
inspiration
There is beauty in everything
light brightens autumn leaves
the patterns of farmland
the shapes music creates
I fill the space
happy or sad
hardship and pain
look up and see joy
create art that lifts rather than weighs
growing
explore
discover
stand up and fight for what’s right
Looking Forward
one-of-a-kind
grounded in gratitude
so fortunate
love in my life
brighter place
Processing
If you wanted, you could go and find the portion of text I used from the article. (Full article linked about.) And if you did, my guess is you’d create a whole new poem from words that were already on the page. That’s one of the neat things about blackout poetry. Is this something you’ll try for yourself? It definitely takes pressure off of knowing what to write…
Enjoy what you’ve read and want to support my art business?

Buy me a brew!
If we were together, and I read you my poem, you might want to buy me a brew. Coffee at a shop is $5. A beer at a pub is $8. Any amount would be appreciated and well used! And let’s continue the conversation! Share your thoughts in the comments!
