Bad Poet 2026: Day 5

  • by

The Prompt

Today’s prompt referenced a show called Interior Motives. Haven’t seen it. But we were guided to write a poem about a “significant room.” One only we’d be able to describe.

The Poem:

three floors up
in a concrete building
in a sea of concrete
on the East China Sea

beige walls and
furniture used by
100 people before

but our Christmas lights
were warm
cozy

we brought them into
our bedroom

all year long

loving lights
we called them

but the lights grew dim
bulbs went out
one by one

the glow of fireflies
now light my way

Summing Up

My apartment/bedroom when I lived on a military base on Okinawa, Japan came to mind for this. What comes up for you when reading this? Does anything grab you?

Enjoy what you’ve read and want to support my art business?

Buy me a brew!
If we were together, and I read you my poem, you might want to buy me a brew. Coffee at a shop is $5. A beer at a pub is $8. Any amount would be appreciated and well used! And let’s continue the conversation! Share your thoughts in the comments!
