Bike Commuting

Last week I rode to work two times. My goal this week is three, and I haven’t ridden to work yet.

I have to make sure to leave on time. Gearing up when I arrive at the park takes a couple of minutes. Leaving the house a few minutes early beats the feeling that I have to pedal super hard to get to work on time.

Riding to work, traffic wasn’t bad.

Coming back it’s worse. I’ve been taking the lane where the bike lane runs out. There were a couple of honkers along Bayshore, and one guy who hollered that I should be in the bike lane (there wasn’t one). I hollered back, “This is MY lane.” He gave me the finger.

I shot him back a peace sign.

Waking up early is hard to do. To arrive at work on time, I need to leave that house at 5:30. That means a 4:45-ish wakeup time. Whew…

To meet my goal this week, I have to ride to work the rest of the week.

I still need to do some maintenance on my Gitane, as I would like for it to be my commuting bike. I noticed I need to change a shifter cable housing on my touring bike. It’s shifting fine, but it needs to be done.

As with all habits, I just need to get it going and do it consistently. I think my constant goal will be to ride at least three times a week, to allow for weather and also a rest day.

Wish me luck on getting up at 4:45 a.m. tomorrow!!!
