Day 18-100 Day Challenge

A rainy day

It rained a lot today, and we needed it. While I worked I opened my back door to let the sound in. I love the sound of rain falling. It’s so soothing.

Work felt good, and I had a couple of meetings that went well.

Later in the day I got together with a friend for a Friday margarita and conversation. It was good to catch up.

I launched a thing!

I’m excited about launching a thing today: I’m fundraising for The Well For Life (Facebook event here.). I’ve been a participant in the Anne Braden Anti-Racist Organizer program since the end of January. I’m learning so much through the homework content of that program, and fundraising for an organization led by BIPOC (black, indigenous, and people-of-color) is also part of it. I’m looking forward to developing my fundraising skills, since it could help with my job and career. More importantly, I’m happy to be working to raise funds and help an organization with such an important mission.

The Well For Life centers the mental health of BIPOC communities. If you’ve been reading my blog for a bit, you know mental health care has been a huge part of what has allowed me to heal and grow from my own personal and generational trauma. It is so incredibly hard to view a better world, not to mention work towards it, when you are struggling to survive through trauma and the hardships of the world. These things are compounded in BIPOC communities, because these communities often don’t have access to mental health care. Also, mental health professionals that provide service to BIPOC communities may not have the skills they need to fully engage with the work. Racism is violence that causes trauma, and our BIPOC siblings deserve the care they need to thrive while we co-create our better world.

The Well for Life was created in 2017 as a “healing space that prioritizes the needs and leverages the strengths of BIPOC.” The organization leaders work with BIPOC communities and empower folks in our community to co-create healing spaces. The Well For Life realizes that healing takes a community, not individuals in isolation. And I’m proud to join and support that community.

Rambling and Naps

Aside from launching my fundraising effort, I rambled around the yard for a bit after it rained. I wanted to see if anyone had come out. I saw this moth (about 2.5 cm tall) on my laundry room door. The Seek app couldn’t identify it down to species, but I’m pretty sure it’s the moth that forms from the little, cute caterpillars I’ve seen all over my yard lately. This moth must be a male, with its feathery antennae. The better to “smell” the females, my dear!

On a rainy day, a nap is always a good idea. My not-so-little-anymore, three-legged cat, Trinity Brew, is usually a little standoffish. When she was smaller, she would sleep in a cat bed by my bed but never in bed with me. It’s been awhile since she’s even slept in the bedroom. And if I try to bring her in to snuggle with me, she usually leaves. So today I brought her in with me, but this time she stayed. And she snuggled my foot during our nap. She even turned around, readjust just so she could snuggle my leg. It was super sweet, and she was still there when I woke up.

Summing up

It’s been a good day today. It’s hard to believe it’s April already, but here we are.

Wishing you love, joy, balance, and connection today!!
