Day 19-100 Day Challenge

A day of rest

Today has felt like a day of rest. I slept in a bit, and I got a nap in today.

Also a day of creation

I’ve also been working on different art projects today. To some, that might not seem like rest. But for me, it’s a brain break. It’s a directed meditation focused on whatever creation I’m making. It’s soothing and cathartic.

I started by working on a mixed media piece that has sat untouched on my easel for a long time. I got stuck on it and didn’t know what to do. A few days ago I got inspiration to start cover up some of what I don’t like. To make designs with that cover up to make things I like better. To use it to highlight and “white out” spaces. It’s still a work-in-progress, but I do like it much better. Hopefully I won’t let it sit for months before touching it again.

I also worked on my little wood carved mushroom some more. I sanded it a bit, and I got my wood burner out and added some accents. I need to practice with my wood burner more, but I like the way it turned out. And I think now it’s finally finished!

I also played with air dry clay today. I had it in my head that I wanted to make a heart “piggy” bank. I need to get a plug for a bank, at least if I ever want to get the money out without breaking it. So I made a mini-planter or dish instead. I’m getting a little more used to working with the air dry clay, and I’m learning different techniques to make different things. I’ve also been painting some of my past clay creations, but I’ll save pictures of those when they are finished.

Fundraising update!

Yesterday I launched my fundraising effort for The Well For Life. Every donation helps The Well For Life connect and co-create healing spaces for BIPOC communities in St. Petersburg, FL (and beyond – The Well For Life is connected with national efforts too!!). I’ve already had my first pledge: $200 from a good friend of mine!! That means I’m at 13% of my goal on the 2nd day! If you’re on Facebook, check out my fundraising efforts there. Every donation amount matters, and a like/share of the Facebook event could help me reach this goal and support this amazing work too!

Closing out

There’s so much going on in the world. In the midst of the things we don’t have control over, I hope you are able to make time for things that bring you peace: art, causes important to you, family and/or friends, etc…

Wishing you love, joy, and peace
