New member of the family
Today’s been a busy day. Lots of meetings. But some excitement at the end of today. I added someone to the family!!
Someone’s father passed, and the bike had been sitting in the garage. It’s in pretty rough shape, but I decided to get it anyway. I have some work to do before it’s really rideable: change out brake and shifting cables and casings, grease the headset (might need new bearings in there too), change the tires and tubes, replace the hand grips, replace the chain. I’ll also have some de-rusting to do on the chrome bits. That all looks superficial, so it will just take some elbow grease.
It’s also got superficial rust on areas where it’s painted, which may have to stay unless I want to strip it all the way down and repaint it. I feel like that would get rid of the rustic look of the bike though, which would be sad. I could talk to some friends about restoring it at some point. We’ll see.
I have a reason for buying it, but I don’t want to share that right now. It’s sort of a surprise. We’ll see if I finish cleaning it up by the deadline I need to hit.
The little things
I got home a little late from picking up the new member of the family. Coming inside I saw this critter by my front door: a yellow collared scape moth, according to the Seek app. It’s about an inch tall.
Closing out
Wishing folks love, joy, and new bikes!!
Can’t wait to see the final outcome of the Folding Bike Project!
Yeah! I’m excited. 🙂 I think it mostly just needs a good derusting and greasing from sitting in storage for so long and some components replaced. I think it’s still a good bike. Took a bit of a risk on it, so we’ll see.
