PYAA Day 24: Cycles of Life

  • by

It’s Day 24 of #promoteyourartapril. And it’s also my birthday!! In celebration, I’m sharing a special artwork. This is the very first original painting I ever created, back in 2012. I was in group counseling at the time, and I had a realization. I realized when I first separated from my ex-, when I first started counseling back in 2009, that my highs and lows were extreme. I didn’t have good mental health tools and coping mechanisms to deal with all that I was going through. Three years later, after being in counseling of some form weekly, I realized that the highs and lows were still there. It’s just that the amplitude wasn’t as big. And, if you want to get super geeky, maybe even the wavelength was longer between the highs and lows.

I overlayed that idea of a wave pattern with the colors of the chakras. The base, or red chakra, is connected with basic survival, safety, and healing. It makes sense that if any of those are “off,” our highs and lows might be much more extreme. As we travel from red to violet and then to white, growth and transformation happen. The highs and lows will always happen, but as we grow they become less extreme.

I’ve considered doing a new series on this theme. This painting hangs on my wall as a testament to my past. But color blending was a skill I didn’t have at that time. And I’d love to make that wave look more 3Dish. Anyhoo…
