The End of Procrastination

… for now.

Pre-school starts on Monday. That’s what my new school calls that planning time before the students come back.

I love the name, pre-school, by the way. It’s so lovely and friendly sounding. I imagine naps on the rug and coloring. That’s not what’s going to happen, but that’s what it evokes!

So, summer is effectively over. I have four more days to get all of the stuff I meant to get done. Like finishing my KonMari apartment cleaning. I got trapped in the komono category (i.e. miscellany). Komono does not bring me joy, apparently, because I’ve been avoiding it.

Honestly, there’s not that much more to do. The place looks way better than it started it, and it has stayed that way. There are some clutter hotspots around that I need to figure out if the stuff stays. Some hotspots are school-related, and will disappear whenever I can get into my classroom.

And the bathroom … (I hate cleaning the bathroom.)

But that’s pretty much it.

Gearing up for the end of procrastination, I’m glad I took a few days to myself from Friday to yesterday. I traveled to Pine Island, FL. It wasn’t the most exotic trip I’ve ever taken, but there is something about sleeping in a different place. About having a loose schedule that allows you to do what you want when you want to.

Mostly I slept in late, rode my bike around, a checked out the northern part of the island. I made sure to study for an hour or so a day for a test I had to take this morning. I passed!

I’ll be teaching chemistry in addition to biology at my new school, and it’s a different certification. I was a little worried, because it had been a while since I’d taken a chemistry-centric class. I was worried about the math. But my unofficial report said I passed, and it felt a lot easier than the practice books I’d been working out of. So go me!

In celebration of passing my test, I got ice cream and went to the Museum of Fine Arts in downtown St. Pete. They had an origami exhibit, and I made two cranes. My first ever! (I could never do it when I was younger. Watching a video instead of using stationary directions really helped.)

So my final act of procrastination will be going to the store. After that, I hereby solemnly swear I will finish cleaning my apartment on or by August 4. I will begin planning for the school year, even if it’s just my syllabus. I will also embrace the fact that taking time for myself is a priority, and I will take breaks and enjoy the other parts of my life too.
