Saturday, I did a thing. WE did a thing! I hosted my first virtual Power Word Creative Workshop. Six folks from three states participated. Together, we reflected on our power words, visual words that we might use to convey those power words, and then we played and made art!!
What was it like?
First off, I’ll save you some time and you can go check out what the participants thought about it on the website’s homepage! Some of the participants wrote some testimonials so you can decide if future workshops will be a good fit for you. If you want my thoughts on the workshop, keep reading!!
After welcoming folks, we took deep breaths together. Then I invited folks to reflect on words that made them feel powerful, and they wrote them down. We did that for a song. I then invited folks to reflect on visual words that might help them visually represent their power words, and we took the time of another song to do that.
Then we moved into creative time. I modeled on my own canvasboard and provided guidance throughout the time. We started by folks picking a few colors they liked best to create their piece, using color as one way to represent power. I invited folks to keep their words secretly hidden in the piece or to make them more prominent. I reminded folks to not overthink the process too much. Feeling stuck with what to do next? Go back to your words for the next step!
All together we reflected, journaled, and played for 90ish minutes. I feel so excited and curious looking at folks’ finished works: how different they are and how each person interpreted the prompts. One of the participants chose words like “calm” as one of their power words, which I thought was super interesting. Calm doesn’t immediately come to mind for me when I think of power, and yet I totally understand them choosing it! (pictures shared with consent)
To be clear, the final art piece is not the be-all of the process. To me, it’s more about connecting with your thoughts and emotions and creating an expression of that. Being in the moment and doing that thing. It’s not about creating a “good” art piece. All art that comes from your heart and creativity is good, and each of these pieces 100% qualifies!!
Will you join me?
I’m 100% going to be offering this type of workshop again. I’ll keep working to host in-person workshops in the Tampa Bay area too! I’m thinking at the end of August for the next workshop. If you aren’t already, make sure to join my e-newsletter (The Daring Digest!) to be one of the first to know when the next ones are happening!!
If you have date/time suggestions, I’d appreciate you sharing them!! And if you have a group of friends who might enjoy a workshop like this, reach out! Let me host for you!! (And you’ll be helping me by taking out the guess-work of choosing a date/time. Choosing when to have them feels like playing darts blindfolded…)
If you read this far, thanks for celebrating with me. It feels wonderful to “break the seal” on these creative workshop offerings. I’m excited to continue offering and sharing these holistic creative experiences!! Thanks for being here and supporting!!
I’m interested. Very impressive. Pulling something like this together.
Thanks, Grant! For the thoughts and for maybe getting some folks together. I definitely appreciate the support!
