Sometimes it can feel like we just aren’t heard. Or if we are heard, that who we are isn’t enough for this world. For me, this has more often come from outside influences: folks who aren’t hearing or understanding me.
But those folks whose actions can make us feel less than? Well, they don’t negate the fact that we are enough. As we are, with our flaws, living, existing.
Don’t get me wrong, us being enough in the moment doesn’t erase the need for continuing to learn and grow. If we’re an asshole in the current moment, that doesn’t give us a right to be an asshole in the future. Instead, “I am enough” says I did the best I could when I acted like an asshole. And as I learned more, I did better (to paraphrase Maya Angelou).
This art piece is for the folks who feel or have felt unheard. It’s a reminder that, no matter the conditions, we are enough. And when someone is trying to push us into a cubbie where we just don’t fit, we can yell it from the rafters: I am enough!!!
How do you feel when you look at this piece? What stands out to you?
