You’ve Been Ducked

  • by

So in October, I sold my Mini Cooper and bought a Jeep Patriot.

If you aren’t familiar, owning a Mini Cooper comes with a set of unenforceable “rules.” I mostly didn’t pay much attention to them, but when opportunity presented itself I did park next to a Mini. And I took a picture for the Mini Facebook group I was a part of. (My Mini nickname was “Mini,” I guess.)

When I was looking at different options for a new-to-me car, I initially said I didn’t want a car that had weird “rules” associated with it. So what did I do? I bought a Jeep.

With Jeeps, the tradition is Jeep ducking. Which is more innocent than you might think. More about it here.

At first I was going to largely ignore that. But then the idea grew on me. Leaving ducks on people’s Jeeps? I always did like giving gifts more than receiving them!!

I started with a few rubber duckies I got cheap at a big box store. Then I bought a pack of 60, with different ducky characters, from the online megastore that shall not be named. I think I’ve given out 20 or so thus far. I have to add new ones to my Jeep to giveaway, which is why I’m sharing this post now. I have yet to be ducked by another Jeep owner. On the bottom of them I share my website address.

Which is part of the reason I’m writing this post. Anyone who received a duck is otherwise probably very confused. So, hello, fellow Jeep owners!!! I hope you enjoy your little ducky!!

It’s fun to keep an eye out for other Jeeps when I pull into a parking lot. And to not look too sneaky when I’m dropping them off on the door handle of the Jeep. I also like to remind myself that I’m gifting these ducks indiscriminately as far as the owner’s background. Just a duck from one human to another. A little 3D connection in a world that can feel very disconnected sometime. And this is very much in the spirit of Living Daringly.

Summing Up

So, I’m enjoying this little tradition. Some energy spread among Jeep owners, at least. May it amplify and continue to spread!

How are you connecting with your fellow humans lately?
